NSF Grant Awarded to Drs. Angelino Viceisza and Danielle Dickens

by Allison Howard | August 24, 2021

Angelino Viceisza, Ph.D., associate professor in economics, and Danielle Dickens, Ph.D., associate professor in psychology, have been awarded a $632,515 grant from the National Science Foundation. The project will implement an intervention titled “Boosting Applications and Awards by MSIs (BAM)!” that will support economics faculty at minority serving institutions. First, faculty will be granted time in the form of a course release to write and submit proposals. Second, faculty will be mentored through the proposal preparation process.

BAM! is expected to increase NSF proposal submissions by MSI faculty, improve their proposal preparation skills, and contribute to greater inclusion of faculty and students at MSIs in STEM. Spelman students will assist with data collection and analysis. The project is collaborative with the National Bureau of Economic Research; NBER President James Poterba, a faculty member at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is a co-investigator.
