As a member of the Clinical Practice Commission and HBCU representative for the
American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, Department of Education Assistant Professor
Valeisha Ellis, Ph.D., contributed to a white paper the Commission released at a Washington, D.C., press conference on Jan. 17.
The paper, titled “A Pivot Toward Clinical Practice, Its Lexicon, and the Renewal of Educator Preparation,” calls for the profession to embrace evidence-based practices for teacher preparation in the PK-12 environment. Ellis was tapped to join the Commission due to her success in teacher preparation.
In her role as Teacher Performance Assessment coordinator, Ellis’ approach to training future educators has produced outstanding results. “The Elementary/Early Childhood Education Spelman candidates have a 100 percent first attempt pass rate on the Georgia GACE Content Area Teacher Certification Exam their junior year,” she said.
