Fatemeh Shafiei
Fatemeh Shafiei, associate professor and chair of political science, has worked for many years to support environmental justice and environmental education.  In August, she was reappointed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator to continue serving as a member of National Justice Advisory Council (NEJAC) for a one-year term.  NEJAC is a Federal Advisory Committee that advises the U.S. EPA on Environmental Justice issues.  NEJAC has 26 members representing diverse stakeholders involved in environmental justice.  Dr. Shafiei serves as one of four members from academia. Also in August, Dr.  Shafiei organized and hosted a two-day faculty development institute, “Educating for Sustainability: Greening the Curriculum at Minority Serving Institutions," with funding provided by UNCF/Mellon.
