Spelman Stands With Houston in Wake of Hurricane Harvey

Dear Spelman Community,

As Hurricane Harvey continues to batter Houston, southwest Louisiana, and the Gulf Coast line, I know that you join me in sending prayers to all of the families impacted by this devastating storm. The Spelman community stands ready to support all on our campus who have loved ones in affected areas and I write now to share with you the steps we are taking on campus in response to the storm.

In the coming hours and days, the campus is making available student wellness and academic counseling, as well as pastoral care and support from student affairs. You may obtain help through the following:

Mental Health Counseling and Wellness 404-270-5293
Academic Counseling 404-270-5701
Health Services 404-270-5249
Pastoral Care 404-270-5729

Faculty and staff, the College offers professional counseling services through our Employee Assistance Program. Brochures are available in the Office of Human Resources and information can be obtained via the My Spelman portal and (800) 523-5668.

For immediate ways to provide resources to those in the impacted areas, please visit FEMA.

As you may remember, Houston played a vital role for families of Louisiana seeking refuge in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Now, the city and its environs need the thoughts, prayers and assistance of fellow Americans nationwide.

The storm is not over and the recovery will be long - the Spelman community will be there to support along the way.

We are keeping Houston and the residents of all of the impacted areas in our thoughts and prayers.

Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D.
President, Spelman College.
