President's Letter to the Community

Staffing Announcement: Executive Assistant

October 2, 2015

Dear Spelman Community,

It is my pleasure to welcome Jarvis Ridges to the Office of the President in her new role as executive assistant. Supporting both the president and chief of staff, Mrs. Ridges will provide administrative support and management of the president’s office. She begins her new role on October 12, 2015.

Mrs. Ridges returned to Spelman in December 2014 and currently serves as alumnae programs coordinator in the Office of Alumnae Affairs in the division of College Relations. She will replace Yvonne Skillings, who has been serving as assistant to the president for more than 13 years.  Mrs. Skillings will continue to serve in the president’s office through December 31, 2015, to assist in the transition.

I take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Skillings for her dedicated service. Her grasp of the complexities of the Office of the President, Spelman College, and the city of Atlanta has been invaluable as she has shepherded me through my early weeks as president. I could not have had a better steward.

Mrs. Ridges brings extensive experience to the president’s office. In her more than 20 years in higher and secondary education and corporate America, she has demonstrated her skill in senior administrative support, software analysis and instruction, and instruction in mathematics.

A native of West Point, Georgia, Mrs. Ridges received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and a Master of Education degree in secondary mathematics education from Georgia State University. She is a member of Spelman’s class of 1989 where she pursued coursework toward her Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics.

Please join me in welcoming Jarvis Ridges to the Office of the President.

Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D.
