The HistoryMakers, the nation’s largest African American video oral history archive has chosen Spelman senior Jasmin Woodruff, C’2022, as one of its 2021-2022 Student Brand Ambassadors.
The program, which began in 2020 with two ambassadors, has 24 ambassadors in the 2021-2022 cohort representing 17colleges and universities, including Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University and Emory University.
Supported in part by a grant from Bank of America, Student brand ambassadors serve as the official representatives for The HistoryMakers Digital Archive on their respective campuses. They are tasked with building digital archive brand awareness and mounting a campus-wide 2022 Black History Month Digital Archive Contest.
A comparative women’s studies, women’s health and pre-med major, Woodruff is honored to represent HistoryMakers at Spelman.
"Understanding history and where we have come from is integral," she said. "Never forget that -- to know where we are going as a people -- it is crucial to know the pathway our ancestors traveled to bring us to where we are today."
This summer, Woodruff participated in an immersion program where she worked with her teammates to learn how to use The HistoryMakers Digital Archive, do in-depth research, create a weekly blog, newsletter, and social media posts, and develop a marketing plan using their existing contacts, networking skills, and knowledge of the campus to build brand awareness. As a brand ambassador, she will also organize and mount a campus-wide 2022 Black History Month Digital Archive Contest.
