Dean Neichelle Guidry to Receive Yale Divinity Alumna Award

October 2019

NEICHELLE GuidryYale Divinity School will award Rev. Neichelle Guidry, Ph.D., dean of Sisters Chapel and director of the WISDOM Center, with a 2019 William Sloane Coffin ’56 Award for Peace and Justice. The Coffin award is given in honor of the life and ministry of William Sloane Coffin, former Yale University chaplain. Recipients of the award are selected based on their contributions to working toward peace and their devotion to the dignity and worth of all individuals. The award will be presented to Dr. Guidry on Oct. 17 at Yale Divinity School.

“My years at YDS were pivotal because I gained an understanding of the Gospel as an inherently political story about a man whose life meant liberation for marginalized peoples,” said Dr. Guidry, who graduated from YDS in 2010.

“This recognition affirms that I'm doing the right thing. My prayer is that I will continue to learn, engage and proclaim a message of equity, justice, inclusion and most importantly, love. It's the joy of my life to do this at Spelman.”
