Dr. Alix Pierre to Serve Three-Year Term as Director of Cultural Orientation

Spelman College Faculty Alix PierreAlix Pierre, Ph.D., has been named director of Spelman’s Cultural Orientation. In this new role, which is a three-year appointment, Dr. Pierre will be responsible for teaching GIS 100. The course, formerly called STS 100, is a required pre-travel seminar for all Spelman students planning to study abroad.

“Dr. Pierre brings a rich experience in leading students abroad,” said 'Dimeji Togunde, Ph.D., vice provost for global education and professor of international studies. “In addition, his robust scholarship and teaching promote intercultural understanding, which underscores the goal of the seminar.” Dr. Pierre holds a joint appointment as a lecturer in the African Diaspora and the World Program and the Department of World Languages and Literature.
