Fifteen students from Josai International University (JIU) led by Professor Chiga Hayashi will come to Spelman College for their internship of the Japanese Language Teaching and Cross-cultural Communication Training from Sept.19 - 27, 2019.
Their internship will be hosted by Spelman's
Department of World Languages and Literature in cooperation with the
Asian Studies Program and the
Godon-Zeto Center for Global Education. JIU is located in Togane, Chiba, close to Tokyo. It has been our partnership site for the summer study abroad program in Japan since 2003. Many of our Spelman students participated in this program at JIU in the past 16 years and gained great first-hand experience in learning the Japanese language, culture and society. Spelman benefited greatly from and appreciates JIU’s support and hospitality to our students.
This is the first time Spelman will host JIU students on its campus. For their internship, the interns will practice Japanese language teaching in Japanese classes, visit the Asian Studies class, and experience cross-cultural communication with our Spelman students in and out of class. Additionally, they will make presentations and conduct activities highlighting Japanese culture.
