Tinaz Pavri, Ph.D., division chair for social sciences and education, and chair of the Asian Studies program, has been selected to join the ASIANetwork’s Enhancing Asian Studies consultancy group. Funded by the Henry Luce Foundation, the consultancy serves to create strategies and provide support to infuse and enhance the study of Asia at liberal arts colleges and historically underserved institutions.
Many liberal arts colleges and historically Black colleges and universities may not have full-fledged Asian studies departments with dedicated faculty lines, said Dr. Pavri. “Institutions often have to be inventive in supporting the study of Asia through the expertise of existing faculty.
The new consultancy will offer innovative solutions to these unique challenges,” she said. ASIANetwork has offered many opportunities to Spelman students with an interest in studying the continent, including funding a faculty-student team that conducted research in Japan.
