Chance the Rapper, rapper, singer, and songwriter, has pledged $1 million to help transform the mental health landscape in his hometown of Chicago and enlisted the assistance of
Destinee Moore, C'2009, LCSW to help lead the charge.
The
My State of Mind initiative is part of Chance’s non-profit organization,
Social Works, which empowers youth through education, the arts and civic engagement.
MSOM leaders meet regularly to research, screen, and evaluate mental health resources in the Chicago area, said Moore, who leads the cohort of private practitioners. They are creating a guidebook of traditional and nontraditional resources.
“This initiative not only helps break the stigma for the current mental health work that I practice, it gives access to our underserved communities in need,” said the Chicago-based psychotherapist. “Through the initiative, we are able to put action behind expansion of access to mental health resources.”
