Spelman College Archivist Awarded Fellowship

October 2017

Spelman Archivist Holly SmithSpelman College Archivist Holly Smith was awarded a fellowship to attend the 2017 Digital Library Federation Forum in Pittsburgh Oct. 23-25. On Oct. 22, Smith joined 41 other HBCU fellows at the DLF HBCU UnConference, which was part of the Forum. They discussed the challenges and professional opportunities of digital libraries. Specifically, they addressed how HBCU digital libraries can best represent diverse communities and experiences.

During the Forum on the following three days, Smith will engage in dialogue about best practices for digital library-based teaching. "My attendance at the Forum is critical to positioning Spelman’s unique collections in the conversation about HBCU digital libraries and long-term preservation of Spelman’s archival heritage,” said Smith. "As the cultural steward of one of the most significant archival collections documenting Black women from the 19th century to the present, I am passionate about ensuring the visibility and sustainability of our materials.”
