Spelman Hosts Interviewing Skills Master Class for Students

Spelman's Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness are proud to present the Master Class Series.

Recognizing that Spelman women are leading in their various industries and are at the top of their games, this series taps into the College's alumnae base to bring current students high touch and high quality programming. The first workshop in the series focuses on interviewing skills.

Spelman alumna Bria TownsendOn Jan. 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m and Jan. 22, from 11 a.m to 3:30 p.m., Spelman welcomes alumnae such as Bria Townsend, C'2018, an associate with the NBA, who played a critical role in ensuring COVID-19 compliance for the NBA Bubble.

While in the associates program, Townsend rotated throughout the organization, from tech and innovation to basketball strategy analytics. She hopes to one day be a team president in the National Football League or NBA.

"I used everything Spelman instilled in me to go after what I wanted, which is a career in sports," she said, adding her advice to current and future Spelman students. "Don’t be afraid to network on LinkedIn and with other Spelman sisters who are in sports. We exist," said the economics major.

Spelman alumna Jai Ferrell  Jai Ferrell, C'2005, assistant general manager assistant of commercial development at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, will be a great resource to students. Ferrell’s responsibilities include oversight of the Airport’s commercial development division, which is responsible for properties and airline affairs, concessions, parking, advertising, external real estate development, air service development and marketing and brand strategy.

Ferrell, who most recently served as the airport’s director of marketing, launched the airport’s ATL Experience ambassador program, which features Hank Aaron, Sara Blakely, Dikembe Mutombo, Killer Mike, Ludacris and a host of Atlanta-based influencers.

Spelman Alumna Bridget Bland Bogee Helps Students With Interview SkillsBridget Bland Bogee, C'2004, social marketing manager, Company Consumer Marketing at Facebook, will join the list of alumnae sharing top industry insights to students. A creative and results-driven leader she earned a law degree from the Newark campus of Rutgers, and has sixteen years of professional experience in the entertainment and digital space.

Her previous roles include serving as head of social media for Getty Images and has worked as a writer and producer for MTV, blogger for AOL, social media strategist for the Grammy’s and lead of digital marketing for Chrysler/FIAT Northeast. Others participating in the Master Class include two Obama White House interns and other rising stars who are excelling in their fields.

This powerful two-day workshop promises to be a signature program that Spelman will highlight for years to come.  The Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness office is committed to expanding community in this virtual space and helping Spelman students strengthen their skills to be highly competitive candidates for any interview.
