Moderator: The Social Determinants of Black Women’s Health
Valerie R. Green-Amos currently serves as a medical director with HealthCare Partners a Division of Optum Medical Group. Prior to her appointment, Green-Amos served as a medical director/clinical lead for Long Beach, California-based HealthCare Partners Division of Optum Medical Group, after serving as a national medical director for Molina Healthcare, and as the president of Molina Medical Group with the responsibility of clinical oversight of over 75 practicing clinicians. Green-Amos has 15 years of managed care and primary care expertise, including physician management, chronic disease management, risk adjustment, culturally competent care, clinic leadership, and patient satisfaction.
Prior to joining Molina in 2013, her professional experience in California included working at Talbert Medical Group/HealthCare Partners. At Talbert/HealthCare Partners, Green-Amos served as medical director/lead physician and complexist of both a Long Beach and Orange County comprehensive health center. In this role, she provided multiple-site clinical coordination for primary and specialty care. In 2012, Green-Amos was chosen as the primary care physician of the year by Healthcare Partners, a group of over 80 primary care physicians, and held the top patient satisfaction for four quarters. She previously served as the director of clinical outreach at Westside Family Health Inc. in Wilmington, Delaware. At Westside, she served the Spanish-speaking population as a National Health Service Corps scholar. Green-Amos completed her residency in family medicine with a concentration in geriatrics at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She holds a medical doctorate from Temple University School of Medicine, and a bachelor’s degree in biology-premed from Spelman College.
Green-Amos is board certified in family medicine and is a bilingual, Spanish-speaking physician. She and her husband have been residents of Long Beach since 2007. Green-Amos is currently president of The Links Inc., Harbor Area (CA) chapter and is a member of numerous organizations including: the American Academy of Family Physicians, California Academy of Family Physicians, National Medical Association, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College, and the Lullaby Guild.
