Spelman Sloan Speaker Miesha WilliamsMiesha J. Williams, Ph.D., is academic program director and assistant professor of economics at Morehouse College and serves on the campus’ Budget Committee and the Advisory Board of the Andrew Young Center for Global Leadership and Faculty Council. She is also a research associate of the University of New Orleans Urban Entrepreneurship and Policy, and a board member of the National Economic Association. 

Dr. Williams obtained her Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts Economics from the University of Alabama in 2014 and 2010, respectively.  Her research examines the macroeconomics policy and institutional development issues in African countries and in the United States. She has written papers on the fiscal and monetary policy issues in African countries; the institutional issues including lending practices and reparations in African countries; the impact of monetary policy on Blacks since the Great Recession; and crime and recidivism.

Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Empirical Economics Letters, The American Economist, Enterprise Development and Microfinance, Journal of Economics Race and Policy, as well as Review of Black Political Economy. She was awarded the 2018 Vulcan Award for teaching excellence.  As a faculty leader and mentor, she has traveled to Liberia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Thailand, and Hong Kong.
