Spelman Sloan Scholar: Hannah Irby

Spelman Sloan Scholar Hannah IrbyHannah Irby, C'2023, is a senior economics major and management and organization minor hailing from Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Irby is a proud member of the Bonner Scholars Program, where she received the 2022-2023 Bonner Love. She is also a member of the Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program, MASTERS Enrichment Program, Alpha Lambda Delta, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She is also a 2023 UNCF Achievement Capstone Scholar nominee. While at Spelman, she has had the opportunity to volunteer with the Atlanta CARES Mentoring Movement, A. G. Rhodes Nursing Home, M. Agnes Jones Elementary, Dunbar Elementary, and Brown Middle School.

Irby's area of research is studying educational outcomes in urban schools. In 2022, she worked as a research assistant in Dr. Matthew Gentzkow’s lab at Stanford University, where she studied political polarization and social media’s impact on presidential elections.

Irby's Long-term Goals

Irby plans to obtain a post-doctoral degree and work in the financial services industry while continuing to grow her data analytical skills.
