Counseling Center Services
We offer an evidence-based, stepped care model that includes services that range from least to most intensive. This model allows students to step up and down the levels of care based on their needs. It empowers students to manage their own mental health.
Our services are free and confidential, and include self-help resources, groups, single-session counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, individual counseling, campus and community referrals, workshops/outreach presentations, and consultation.

Services Offered
Self-Help
Explore our Self-Help page that provides information on community resources and a variety of mental health topics. Self-help material is not intended to diagnose or treat any condition. You can always reach out to the Counseling Center at 404-270-5293 to consult with a clinician.
Groups
We offer open groups each semester where you can learn coping strategies and receive support from other students. We encourage you to attend several sessions consecutively for increased effectiveness. Visit Groups and Workshops for a listing of available sessions.
Single-Session Counseling
During these one-on-one sessions, which typically last 30-45 minutes, a licensed clinician will help you set and attain goals to feel better and stay well. Some concerns, such as talking through an immediate stressor or decision, can be addressed in a single counseling session. The single session may include referrals, resources, or other services as appropriate.
Crisis Intervention
Spelman College is committed to responding as quickly as possible to any mental health emergency on campus. A mental health emergency is an emotional or behavioral crisis that warrants same-day or immediate attention by a mental health professional.
Individual Counseling
Short-term therapy at the Counseling Center is goal oriented, solution focused, and time limited.
Referrals
If you and your clinician determine that you need longer-term, more intensive or more specialized treatment than we will educate you on how to find providers in the community. We do our best to exercise clinical judgment in deciding when to facilitate a referral to other services on campus or in the local community.
Workshops/Outreach
We appreciate you taking the time to encourage mental health education among the Spelman College community including student groups, academic departments, staff and others. To ensure we can staff your event in the most efficient and effective way, please complete our Outreach Request Form.
Consultation
Consultation is available to concerned faculty, staff, students, and parents seeking information regarding mental health or for advice in responding to others who might be having mental health difficulties.
