Kayla Seals Allers, C’2022, Addresses Equal Rights Through Journalism Fellowship

January 2019

kayla seals c-2022Having always been interested in journalism, Kayla Seals Allers, C’2022, is fulfilling her dreams as a 2018 fellow of the Sy Syms Journalistic Excellence program. The fellowship, supported by Women’s eNews, provides opportunities for individuals who want to pursue journalism. As part of the fellowship, she is responsible for writing articles that connect modern day problems to the Equal Rights Amendment.

“It has challenged me to think about constitutional amendments in a way that I haven’t before,” said Allers.

“Spelman has definitely been a good platform for me to share and voice the issues about which I’m writing. Through my research, it has become clear that Black women, and other women of color, have not always had access to decision-making tables," she said. "Now, we are working to make sure these policies are equitable toward all, which is important to me.”
