August 2018

Spelman Student Lia BurtLia Burt, C'2019, considers herself to be more independent, self-reliant and self-confident thanks to her summer abroad experience. For eight weeks, Burt worked in Berlin, Germany as a business development intern for Ada Health, a health tech startup.

Spelman College health sciences major was selected for the internship through the Cultural Vistas Fellowship program, which provides immersive study abroad opportunities for students of color. Burt was one of 13 students selected overall for the fellowship from across the U.S.

“Exposure to German culture gave me a broad and sophisticated worldview which sparked a new diverse way of thinking,” she said. Her responsibilities included researching the user regularity of Ada’s artificial intelligence powered app.

“I look forward to bringing to Spelman more awareness about the Cultural Vistas program and the importance of having an international experience abroad,” Burt said.
