Mary-Pat Hector, C'2019, Named "Women Making a Mark’ Honoree

June 2016

Mary-Pat HectorMary-Pat Hector, C’2019, has been named one of the 2016 “Women Making a Mark” by Atlanta magazine. The program recognizes Atlanta women for their extraordinary work to make the city better. She and the other 12 honorees were recognized at a luncheon on June 10 at the Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta. Hector, a comparative women’s studies major minoring in political science, began her community activism as a preteen working to reduce gun violence and increase youth recreation facilities in her Stone Mountain, Georgia, community. Earlier this year, Hector shared her concerns about the school-to-prison pipeline with President Barack Obama during a visit to the Oval Office with other civil rights leaders. The Spelman Social Justice Fellow serves as national youth director of the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network and is co-director of leadership and civic engagement for the Spelman Student Government Association.
