Spelman Class of 1892

Annual Giving

The Road to June 30

For this final campaign of our fiscal year 2020, we're challenging each of our main regions - the Northeast, South Central & Southeast, Western & Far West, and the Great Lakes - to compete based on participation rates!

When you make a gift, of any amount, not only are you contributing to Spelman's mission, but you're also increasing our alumnae donor participation rate, which impacts our rankings by showing the world that our alumnae support us.

The region that reaches the highest participation rate this month wins! Represent your region, and show your Spelman spirit by supporting your alma mater today!

For us to remain Spelman strong, we need your help!

A Special Salute to the Class of 2020

Congratulations to the Spelman College Class of 2020

Congratulations to all of our graduating seniors. The Class of 2020 is the embodiment of the perseverance, tenacity, dedication, leadership and empowerment that Spelman strives to inspire in all of our students. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved over the past four years in the face of obstacles and challenges. Despite their final year being abruptly interrupted, our seniors have remained undaunted and successfully completed their academic courses. They have worked so hard to earn their degrees, and although their commencement ceremonies have been postponed, we celebrate them now. Please enjoy learning about a few of our brilliant graduates:

Thulani Vereen

Thulani Vereen, is a computer science major from Yardley, Pennsylvania. She serves as a co-captain of the Spelman Programming Team, a three-term student choreographer for the Spelman Dance Theater, and co-founder of WeAreSpelman. After Spelman, she will be working as a software engineer in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Readers can learn more about her projects at thulanivereen.com

"I will always refer to my time at Spelman as the time I found my light," said Vereen. "Upon entering the College, I was caught in an internal struggle between my passions of dance and computer science. I was putting pressure on myself to pick one over the other, but each time I 'picked' one, I felt an immense betrayal within."

"Spelman taught me that there are no bounds to what I can be. Spelman pushed me to ask, why not do both? I have answered this question by producing several dance-tech projects over the last four years. I will continue to answer this question by committing myself and my career to being a leading innovator in the performing arts-technology space. Special thanks to Dr. Jerry Volcy, Professors Kathleen Wessel and T. Lang, and Eric Thompson for helping me find my light and encouraging me to bring the fire."

Our Mission

The purpose of the Office of Annual Giving at Spelman College is to effectively raise funds from all constituency groups, encouraging annual contributions that support and advance the mission of Spelman College. Gifts to the Annual Fund (Unrestricted Fund), support the College’s strong legacy and is the foundation for transformative change.

Every Woman...Every Year History

In 2006, Spelman College launched the Every Woman… Every Year! campaign to increase Alumnae participation and the support of EVERY alumna EVERY year. Over the last 10 years, our alumnae participation rate has doubled, helping Spelman remain the No. 1 HBCU since the campaign launch. This year our goal is 35% alumnae participation and we cannot reach this goal without YOU.
