Spelman Class of 1892

Annual Giving

The Road to June 30

For this final campaign of our fiscal year 2020, we're challenging each of our main regions - the Northeast, South Central & Southeast, Western & Far West, and the Great Lakes - to compete based on participation rates!

When you make a gift, of any amount, not only are you contributing to Spelman's mission, but you're also increasing our alumnae donor participation rate, which impacts our rankings by showing the world that our alumnae support us.

The region that reaches the highest participation rate this month wins! Represent your region, and show your Spelman spirit by supporting your alma mater today!

For us to remain Spelman strong, we need your help!

A Special Salute to the Class of 2020

Congratulations to the Spelman College Class of 2020

Congratulations to all of our graduating seniors. The Class of 2020 is the embodiment of the perseverance, tenacity, dedication, leadership and empowerment that Spelman strives to inspire in all of our students. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved over the past four years in the face of obstacles and challenges. Despite their final year being abruptly interrupted, our seniors have remained undaunted and successfully completed their academic courses. They have worked so hard to earn their degrees, and although their commencement ceremonies have been postponed, we celebrate them now. Please enjoy learning about a few of our brilliant graduates:

Mary Chimezie, C’2020

May 2020

Mary ChimenzieMary Chimezie is a graduating senior philosophy major, double minor in economics and comparative women's studies from Vauxhall, New Jersey. During her time at Spelman, Chimezie served as a resident adviser, Spirit Leader, publicity chair of the Spelman Chapter of National Council of Negro Women, member of the Spelman Chapter of Young Democrats of America, a member of the Senior Class Council, and Class Justice. She is co-intern liaison and board member for the PULSE Programming Board, and vice president of the Philosophy Club.

"Leaving Spelman at a time like this leaves an indelible mark on my heart, but the adversity the Class of 2020 faced in these last couple of weeks will be something that binds us even closer for years to come," she said. "My favorite time at Spelman has always been Commencement and Reunion, as I have volunteered during this amazing week for two years. While our ceremonial events have been "put on pause," becoming an alumna and sharing in that sisterhood is something that can never be taken from me; and for that I am grateful beyond measure."

"After leaving Spelman, I will be starting as a full-time analyst at JPMorgan Chase with the goal of building my business acumen and gaining more experience in the workforce before returning to graduate school for my JD/MBA."

The most important lesson my Spelman education has afforded me is the understanding of how imperative it is I use my platform to uplift people who look like me, no matter what field I enter. My ultimate goal is to work in venture capitalism, focusing on funding startup ventures led by Black men and women -- a group historically overlooked, underfunded and undervalued. I look forward to all the ways Spelman will continue to show up in my life and in my heart."

Our Mission

The purpose of the Office of Annual Giving at Spelman College is to effectively raise funds from all constituency groups, encouraging annual contributions that support and advance the mission of Spelman College. Gifts to the Annual Fund (Unrestricted Fund), support the College’s strong legacy and is the foundation for transformative change.

Every Woman...Every Year History

In 2006, Spelman College launched the Every Woman… Every Year! campaign to increase Alumnae participation and the support of EVERY alumna EVERY year. Over the last 10 years, our alumnae participation rate has doubled, helping Spelman remain the No. 1 HBCU since the campaign launch. This year our goal is 35% alumnae participation and we cannot reach this goal without YOU.
