Daughters Film Screening
Jaleesa Diaz Leite, C'2013, and Justice for Black Girls will be hosting "Daughters," a post-film screening and a panel discussion, in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby, Ed.D. Academic Center, LL32 on Friday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m.
According to the Netflix synopsis about the film, "Four girls prepare to reunite with their fathers through a special dance at a DC jail in this moving documentary about the healing power of love." The film will explore the lives of children as they navigate life with their father in the prision system.
"'Daughters' is a powerful documentary that explores the complexities of familial bonds strained by the criminal justice system, told through the eyes of young Black girls. The film emphasizes that the foundation of community healing begins within the family," said Leite, the manager of Multicultural Publicity at Netflix. "It’s crucial for people to witness the profound impact our justice system has, particularly on young Black girls, because these girls grow up to become women navigating a world shaped by these experiences. Understanding the factors that influence who we are as Black women is essential to fostering empathy and change."
