A Sneak Peek at the Class of 2018

We have so many stories about the great work members of the class of 2018 are doing, but here are just a few from the Our Stories area on spelman.edu.

Top 10 graduate Tiara Harris will serve as a human resource officer in the U.S. Army.

Tiara HarrisSpanish major Tiara Harris, C'2018, chose Spelman for its rigor and diverse programs of study.

A graduate of Ola High School in McDonough, Georgia, Harris will fulfill her dream of commissioning as an adjutant general (human resource) officer in the United States Army. A member of Spelman’s ROTC program, Harris earned a 3.9 grade point average and is one of the class of 2018's top 10 graduates.

“I have been awarded the Military Excellence award and the Daughters of the American Revolution award through my Army ROTC program,” Harris said. She earned the awards for demonstrating qualities of honor, service, leadership, courage and patriotism. Harris credits Spelman’s signature academic programs for expanding her global outlook and preparing her for the future. As a member of Saluting our Armed Services, a Spelman student organization, she also assisted military veterans and their family members.

“During my time at Spelman, I was able to participate in a semester study abroad program in Seville, Spain,” she said. While in Spain, Harris taught English to elementary school students which proved to be the highlight of her collegiate experience. Study abroad allowed me to become a lot more comfortable with speaking Spanish which can be very beneficial in the military and in my other future endeavors."
