Spelman Board Chair, Rosalind Gates Brewer, C’84, Named to Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Women List

January 2020

Spelman Trustee Rosalind BrewerRosalind Gates Brewer, C'84, group president and chief operating officer for Starbucks and chair of Spelman’s Board of Trustees, was recently added to Forbes' "100 Most Powerful Women" list.

The list features women from six categories -- business, technology, finance, media & entertainment, politics & policy and philanthropy. Collectively, the women control or influence more than $2.3 trillion in revenue, as well as oversee nearly 6.5 million employees.

Forbes cites multiple reasons for Brewer's inclusion as No. 43 on the list, including her being the first woman and first African American to serve as COO of Starbucks, becoming the only person of color to sit on Amazon's board, and helping Starbucks implement policy changes and racial bias training for employees in more than 8,000 stores.

Brewer recently discussed some of her career lessons on the Washington Post podcast, “Cape Up with Jonathan Capehart.”
