Cynthia DuBose Named Special Projects Head at McClatchy Papers

August 2019

Cynthia DuBose Cynthia DuBose, C‘2002, has been named senior editor for special projects for McClatchy Newspapers. In her new role, DuBose will lead McClatchy’s Priorities Project, which focuses on election-year conversations about the policy issues that are most important to the readers of the media company's 30 newspapers.

The Priorities Project was designed to elevate the conversation about what needs attention and solving between local communities and the politicians that serve them — especially in an election year, said the former English major who served as editor-in-chief of the Spelman Spotlight.

“Those years ingrained in me the power of the local voice — that’s the power I want to restore,” she added. “In a way, that’s how Spelman groomed me for this role — it taught me how to be an agent for change.”

Prior to  McClatchy, Dubose worked at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution as a reporter, digital channel manager, and special projects manager. She led the AJC's digital team and then helped lead Cox Media Group's development of Fans 1st Media. From there, she became digital marketing manager for MiMedx, a local biopharmaceutical company.

DuBose earned a bachelor's degree from Spelman and her master's in journalism from Columbia University.
