Tandra Taylor to Expand Lewis and Clark Community College’s Understanding of Diversity

August 2019

Spelman Alumna Tandra TaylorTandra Taylor, C’2006, was recently named diversity and inclusion coordinator for Lewis and Clark Community College located in Godfrey, Illinois. In her role, Taylor will support faculty and staff developing inclusive practices, working to attract, retain, and graduate more students of color, and designing initiatives that expand how the campus and its surrounding communities understand diversity.

“While creating a more complex understanding of diversity helps protect the rights of and enhances educational opportunities for historically disempowered students, I also seek to target and develop the ways in which diversity can be a tremendous institutional resource that can contribute to academic and institutional excellence,” said Taylor.

“I tell people that Spelman prepared me. From the African Diaspora and the World program to the vast diversity of Spelman’s student body, the College equipped me with the intellectual and social framework needed to develop diversity and inclusion practices.”

Taylor earned her Bachelor of Arts in French from Spelman, a Master of Arts in Public History from Georgia State University and another Master in Arts in American Studies from Saint Louis University. She is currently completing her doctorate in American Studies at Saint Louis University and also teaches African-American Studies part-time at Fontbonne University.
