Dr. Andrea Lewis, C'96, 2022 True Blue Award Recipient

Andrea Lewis Founders Day HonoreeAfter graduating summa cum laude from Spelman College, Andrea Lewis earned a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a doctorate from Georgia State University. She will graduate in May 2022 with a Master of Divinity from the Turner Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center.

Dr. Lewis is currently Director of Spelman's Student Success Program and is an associate professor of education. In addition to her work in Student Success, she chairs the College Completion Action Team and co-chairs the Campus Assessment Response and Evaluation Team. Dr. Lewis also serves as campus adviser for the Mu Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated; Gifted Girls of Grace; and Spelman College Debate Team.

She is the author of three books: "Valerie’s New Friends"; "Unsung Legacies of Educators and Events in African American Education" (co-authored); and "Preservice Teachers, Social Class, and Race in Urban Schools: Experiences and Strategies for Teacher Preparation." A fourth book, "She Who Believed: Redefining Life Through God’s Grace" is scheduled for publication September 2022.

Dr. Lewis is ordained and an Associate Minister at Big Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. She is also founder of Virtuous Pearl Interdenominational Women’s Ministry, which studies God’s word through the experiences of women.

She is a member of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta Board of Directors and has held leadership positions in local chapters of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated; The Links, Incorporated; National Alumnae Association of Spelman College; and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Her proudest accomplishment is being a mother to two amazing sons, Christian and Alexander.
