Chemistry Student

Sophomore Becomes Youngest Estée Lauder Intern

September 2019

Unique AkinloyeThis summer, Unique Akinloye, C’2022, learned a valuable lesson: it pays to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Akinloye, a chemistry and chemical engineering major, was one of 17 students selected for the Lauder Summer Internship, a 10-week program that exposes students to real-world corporate situations. The 18-year-old sophomore was selected during her first year at Spelman, making her the youngest team member in this year’s cohort.

Fashion and beauty have been areas of interest for Akinloye since early childhood. “Working with Estée Lauder nurtured my fascination with chemistry,” she said. “This summer challenged me to step outside of my comfort zone and put hard work into everything that I do.” Akinloye will continue her relationship with the company as a brand ambassador.
