Meet Our Social Justice Fellows

Autumn Simmons, C'2020

Autum SimmonsAutumn Simmons is a senior sociology and anthropology major from Kalamazoo, Michigan.

During the summer, Simmons conducted research at Columbia University where she examined the implications of Black women pursuing excellence in the era of a “Beyoncé work ethic.”

I am committed to social justice...

"...because I dream of a world where the next generation of Black folks are remedied of racial arthritis. Today, we see the impact of  ongoing symptoms (surveillance, policing and incarceration) that target marginalized communities. Thus, I am dedicated to disarming systems, directly and indirectly, related to the marginalization of Black people."
