Meet Our Social Justice Fellows

Asia Reese, C'2021

Asia ReeseAsia Reese is a junior sociology and anthropology major from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her social justice work has varied from helping develop her co-fellows work, "Beyond the War," and being the historian for Spelman's chapter of the National Action Network.

During the summer, Reese began her journey toward her Ph.D. as a UNCF/Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow. She participated in the UNCF/Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program Summer Institute which was held at Emory University. During the program, she worked on developing her research on blackness, place-making and understanding how Black communities organize themselves to survive.

I am social justice ...

"...because I am committed to the development of communities beyond the limitations of a capitalist, individualistic, consumerist culture, and I have an unwavering love for blackness."
