Maya Barnes, C'2021

Maya BarnesMaya Barnes is a senior environmental studies major from Medford, Massachusetts. Maya is a Social Justice Program Associate. Her social justice advocacy is focused on the built environment and environmental justice. Through this program, she has been involved in Unlocked Minds, a group that focuses on criminal justice reform and women’s libertarian through fellowship and book club discourse. Maya is a member of the Undergraduate Health Sciences Academy at Morehouse School of Medicine (UHSA) and the Student Health Associates and Peer Educators (SHAPE). Maya has volunteered at Morehouse School of Medicine’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Academy helping to engage young students in the field. During her time at Spelman, Maya studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. She was also able to complete a short-term study abroad experience in Havana, Cuba.
