Social Justice Scholar: Katherine Harper C'2023

Katherine Harper Katherine Harper is a junior Political Science major with a minor in English from Fountain Hills, Arizona. In the summer of 2020, Katherine co-founded a social justice organization in her hometown called Together We Care: Fountain Hills (TWC). The organization was founded to spread education based on caring for and listening to one another, cultural consciousness, and deconstructing a whitewashed narrative that casts aside Black and other people of colors’ stories.

On June 25, 2020, TWC held a peaceful protest, with over 200 attendees from around the Phoenix metroplex, against police sanctioned violence and the murder of George Floyd. Katherine has contributed to a weekly newsletter, bi-weekly podcast, and creating social media content. Currently, Katherine and TWC are working closely with the mayor and her council to continue the conversation of being culturally conscious every day in their community.

I am social justice…

blue-quote-left…because I use my voice to advocate for those who have been historically silenced and denied of resources. I lead with compassion by knowing when it is my turn to listen, learn from those around me, and honor their experiences by bringing their perspectives into both regular and political discourse.
