Meet Our Social Justice Fellows

Raquel Thomas, C'2021

Raquel Thomas

Raquel Thomas is a sociology major with a minor in Spanish from Carrollton, Georgia.
During the summer, Thomas began the journey toward her Ph.D. as a UNCF/Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow at the UNCF/Mellon Programs Summer Institute which was held at Emory University. In addition, Thomas served as a camp counselor with Camp in the Community and a member of the Lighthouse | Black Girl Projects. She also studied abroad in Florence, Italy.

Thomas is the founder of Liberating Legacies, a program focused on supporting middle and high school students with incarcerated parents. Through weekly meetings, she hopes to help empower participants by assisting them in narrating their own experiences through readings and discussions on topics like mass incarceration.

I am committed to social justice...

"because I believe in resistance, love, healing and the preservation of the Black community."
