Provost's Council

The Provost Council is convened to assist in the coordination of the work in Academic Affairs with the department chairs, program chairs,  program directors, Faculty Council, faculty and administration.  The vice presidents for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, the director of the Teaching Research and Resource Center, and the director of Undergraduate Research serve as ad hoc members of the Provost Council.

Dr. Dimeji Togunde serves as the associate provost for Global Education and professor of International Studies at Spelman College. His roles include providing senior leadership for the implementation of the College’s Strategic Planning and its Quality Enhancement Plan, also known as Spelman Going Global! As the College’s chief international officer, he provides guidance and direction for all of the College’s global learning initiatives and strategic international partnership engagements.

Veta Goler is co-director of the Teaching Resource and Research Center and associate professor in the Department of Dance Performance & Choreography. Holding the MFA in dance and a Ph.D., in African-American studies, she has worked as a modern dance artist — performing and choreographing nationally and internationally — and as a dance historian, focusing her research on contemporary African-American modern dance artists, particularly women choreographers. In recent years, her research interests have expanded to include the intersection of dance and spirituality in popular culture and to explorations of spirituality and contemplative practices in education and the workplace. She has presented her research at national and international conferences and is published in a number of journals and anthologies.

Tinaz Pavri

Tinaz Pavri is the division chair for the Social Sciences and Education at Spelman College.  In that capacity, she serves as a link between the division and the Office of the Provost on a host of curricular, academic and other issues. She is a professor in the Department of Political Science and also serves as the director for the Asian Studies Program. Her B.A. in political science is from St. Xavier’s College, Bombay.  Her Ph.D., also in political science (with a specialization in international relations), is from Ohio State University.
