Chandler R. Nutall, C'2023, is a junior English major from Washington, D.C. She was recently selected as a 2022 Truman Scholarship Finalist for the Washington DC I Region. The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation received 705 applications for the 2022 season, and Nutall is one of the 189 students selected to advance.
An Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Scholar, Nutall is a Social Justice Fellow, secretary of the Honors Program Student Association, and co-president of the National Council of Negro Women, Spelman College Section. Nutall also currently serves as secretary of academic affairs for the Spelman Student Government Association (SSGA).
Believing that a strong academic curriculum requires civics education, Nutall is an Andrew Goodman Foundation Ambassador to Spelman College, promoting civic engagement within the Spelman community. After graduation, Nutall intends to pursue a Juris Doctor degree.
She is passionate about educational equity, aspiring toward a career of generating a more equitable distribution of academic resources in American K-12 public schools. She was recently named a 2021 HBCU Competitiveness Scholar by the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
