Beinecke Scholarship Program

Scholarships are awarded for the graduate education of of undergraduate students of exceptional promise, to pursue opportunities available to them and to be courageous in the selection of a graduate course of study in the arts, humanities and social sciences. You are encouraged to work with a Faculty Mentor (details on OUS page) during the application process.

How to Apply

Your internal (Spelman) application packet must include:
  • The Prestigious Fellowship & Scholarship cover sheet (PDF).
  • A copy of the completed Beinecke application form (accessed via the Beinecke website).
  • A personal statement* including a head shot.
  • A current resume.
  • A copy of your unofficial transcript (you can send us an updated transcript in the spring, once fall grades are posted).
  • Three letters of recommendation (must be from current or former college faculty/instructor).
  • Internal application deadline is the third Monday of October.
If you advance to the interview round, note that all interviews are scheduled for late October.

Only one nominee can be advanced to the Beinecke Selection Committee.

Application Instructions

*Your Beinecke Scholarship Personal Statement should be 1,000 words or less and describe your background, scholarly interests, plans for graduate study and career aspirations. The statement should include a discussion of some ideas and experiences that have shaped those interests, plans and aspirations.

Please attach a headshot of yourself in the upper right hand corner of your statement of purpose.
