Principal Investigator

After seven and one-half years of service, Dr. Francesina Jackson retired from Spelman College on January 31, 2020.  Most recently, Dr. Jackson served as principal investigator on the U.S. Department of Education First in the World (FITW) project, a randomized controlled trial on the impact of meta-cognition on student academic performance. The project resulted in four publications by and about the project and more than 10 presentations documenting the implementation and outcomes of a field-based study in Spelman’s signature course, African Diaspora and the World. The FITW project identified significant, positive changes in classroom behavior of students and instructors.
