Student in Paris

Major Requirements | Minor Requirements

Parlez-vous Francais?

If the answer to that question is “oui,” “un peu” or even “non,” Spelman’s French program can do more than simply satisfy a foreign language requirement. It can broaden a student’s perspective through  global thinking and access to opportunities at home and abroad.

French is a very important language for careers as diverse as business, medicine, the legal field and foreign service work. It is also the language of international travel, fashion, art, cuisine and entertainment.

Acting French

Students who take core classes study French through the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. They also study aspects of French and Francophone cultures. Classes are highly interactive in order to allow students opportunities to practice their language skills.

Study Abroad

The department offers one month of study on the island of Martinique where students live with host families and study the French language and French-Caribbean culture.
