Model United Nations

Model United Nations is an educational and training activity that allows students to simulate the complex work carried out by international diplomats within the context of the various organs and deliberative bodies of the United Nations System. Students assume the role of “Ambassadors” from United Nations member states and seek, through debate and negotiation, common solutions to critical issues on the global agenda. Through this concrete experience, students gain a global perspective on difficult world problems as they conduct research and prepare speeches for presentation at Model UN conferences held in national and international sites.

A general elective course, IS 314 Diplomacy and the United Nations System, is suggested for students participating on the Spelman College Model UN Team as well as students interested in joining the Foreign Service. This course is offered in the first semester.
