The "10 Most Fascinating People of Bermuda 2016"​ Featuring Tawana Tannock, C'98

Spelman Alumna Tawana TannockSpelman alumna Tawana Tannock, C’98, chairperson for the Human Rights Commission of Bermuda, was recognized as one of the 10 most fascinating people in the country in 2016.  She and her fellow commissioners are responsible for adjudicating complaints of discrimination and act as educators and advocates in the promotion and protection of human rights.

In the "Most Fascinating People of Bermuda" video series, host Lisa Pickering said, "Tawana Tannock and helping people have always gone hand in hand. After holding careers as high school teacher, probation officer, Crown counsel, and private sector lawyer, she was appointed chairwoman to the Human Rights Commission in 2016, a plentiful year for human right issues locally and globally."

A history and political science major who was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2009 and the Bermuda Bar in 2010, Tannock is vice-president of claims and compliance at Bowring Marsh, a global leader in insurance brokering and risk management.

Prior to joining Bowring Marsh, Tannock was an attorney with Bermuda's Ministry of Justice. She currently sits on the professional conduct and CLE committees of the Bermuda Bar Association, is co-chairperson of Marsh Bermuda Women’s Exchange and is an executive officer of the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance Bermuda. Her daughter Treasure Tannock, C'2020, is a drama major at Spelman.
