Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Program

Beginning in the fall 2018, the Spelman College education department will offer a post-baccalaureate teacher certification program for individuals desiring to receive teacher certification in Georgia.

Deadline to Apply: July 31, 2018

The post-baccalaureate teacher certification program is a year-long program designed for college graduates from Spelman and outside institutions who wish to earn teacher certification. Successful completion of the coursework leads to state certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC).

Teacher Certification Offerings

Teacher certification programs are available in the following content areas:

  • Secondary Education (grades 6-12)
    Chemistry, English, History, Mathematics,
    Physics or Political Science
  • Pre-Kindergarten -- 12th Grade Education
    Spanish or Music

Admission Prerequisites

  • Have a college degree in a teacher certification area
  • Pass Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) in content area
  • Have a minimum 2.85 cumulative GPA at an undergraduate institution(s)
  • Complete the Intro to Education course by Aug. 2018 for the Fall 2018 cohort
