Summary of the Program

The program is an intensive five-days-a-week, four-hours-per-day curriculum. This will
satisfy the Spelman College requirements of 8 credits for the 2 courses each student takes.

Upon arrival, students are tested and placed in groups (7-8 students), and classes according to their level of language skills from intermediate to advanced levels. The students will be offered 2 classes of Spanish language and 2 classes of Spanish Civilization and Literature.

Each student will be placed in 2 of these courses and will receive 8 credits which will
transfer directly to Spelman. In addition to the scheduled classes, there will
be afternoon cultural activities and field trips during the week.

Students will visit the most important monuments and historical locations such as: Alcazaba (or Muslim Castle), Roman Amphitheatre, Cathedral, Picasso Museum, Málaga AcogeNon-Profit Organization, and more. There will also be weekend excursions to other cities.

Living Accommodations

Students will be living with a local Spanish family for the four weeks of the program.
The home-stay experience will facilitate language learning and practice, as well as an active participation in the cultural and social Spanish life.

Each family will host one student, unless exceptional circumstances make us have two  Spelman students in the same household. The host family will provide three daily main
meals, and laundry service.

A housing coordinator, in Spain, will try to match the needs of the students with those of the host families, and will also supervise family placements.

Anticipated Cost

The estimated cost is $3,350. This includes the one-month stay with the family, room and board, instructional materials, courses, and all programmed activities and excursions. However, this fee does not include round trip airfare from Atlanta to Malága.

Students participating in the Program will be required to attend all orientation sessions,
before departure for Malága. Students who do not have a passport, and plan
to apply for the program, should start the process of acquiring one ASAP.
