Asia Leeds, Ph.D., Presents at Race and Difference Colloquium at Emory

October 2016

Asia Leeds
Asia Leeds, Ph.D., assistant professor and co-director of African Diaspora Studies at Spelman, is among the scholars participating in this fall’s Race and Difference Colloquium Series at Emory University.

Co-sponsored by Emory’s James Weldon Johnson Institute, the colloquium will feature weekly presentations by local and national scholars and authors, who will discuss their academic research on contemporary questions of race and intersecting dimensions of difference.

The series will explore disciplines from dance and queer studies to indigenous and Asian-American studies. During her noonday presentation on Sept. 19, Dr. Leeds shared her research on “Gender, Garveyism, and the Racial Geographies of Belonging in Costa Rica.” The weekly presentations, which began Sept. 12, will continue at noon each Monday through Nov. 28.
