shady Radical, Ph.D. is a performance archivist and founder of The Radical Archive of Preservation (T.R.A.P.). Her practice is grounded in ritual, resistance, and movement practices. She uses exhibition and performance to pull anarchival material out of traditional archives and historical memory in order to activate silences and erasures attributed to forms of subjugation.

Currently Dr. Radical teaches at Spelman College in the Art and Visual Culture Department. She teaches classes in Art History and Writing and Criticism.  Her class The Black Female Body in Visual Art explores the work of historical figures working in Black performance art and employing strategies of survival.  Dr. Radical also leads the preservation project at Ballethnic Dance Company in East Pointe, Georgia.  As a writer and memory worker, her work often finds her in unique and undefined spaces that fuel her creativity.

Dr. Radical earned a Ph.D. in the Moving Image Studies program at Georgia State University; an M.A. in Curatorial Studies at New York University; a B.A. in Art History at The College of Saint Elizabeth; and a A.A. in Fashion Studies at Berkeley College. Her professional experience includes working at Tyler Perry Studios, Atlanta Contemporary, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. Dr. Radical currently serves as assistant chair for the Society of Georgia Archivists’ Education Committee.
