COVID-19 Testing Requirements

Spring 2022 Mandatory Pre-Arrival COVID-19 Testing

All faculty, staff and students must take a COVID PCR test prior to arriving on campus for the spring semester.

DoctorsIMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to issues with the GetCovidSafe website, the mandatory pre-arrival PCR test can be done at an outside source: i.e., pharmacy, clinic, medical provider, etc. Be sure to upload your test results to Etrieve on the mySpelman portal.

At-home Testing Instructions

If your test kit was delivered by a local Covid Care Courier Service (your received test kit in a paper bag), follow these instructions:

  • Each package includes everything needed to provide a saliva sample and package it for pick up.
  • Collect your saliva sample into the supplied tube receptacle by following the instruction sheet contained in the PCR kit. You do not need to schedule a tele-health visit.
  • Place the receptacle containing your saliva sample into the supplied bio-hazard bag.
  • Place the bio-hazard bag with the receptacle containing your saliva sample into the same paper bag in which you received the kit.
  • Send a text to 678-535-9904 to set up a pick up date and time range.
  • You may receive a call from a courier to facilitate pickup.
  • Place the paper bag at an easily accessible location (typically at the front entrance) to your home.
  • You will receive a text message indicating when your package was retrieved.
  • After your sample is received by the lab, you will receive your test results within 24-48 hours by text and/or email.

If your test kit was delivered by FedEx, follow this notice:

  • You will find in the package everything you need to provide a saliva sample and package it to be returned for testing.
  • Collect your saliva sample into the supplied tube receptacle by following the instruction sheet contained in the PCR kit. You do not need to schedule a tele-health visit.
  • Place the receptacle containing your saliva sample into the supplied bio-hazard bag.
  • Place the bio-hazard bag with the receptacle containing your saliva sample into the supplied FedEx return package and seal.
  • Take this return package to any FedEx drop location BEFORE 4 P.M.
  • Please take note that your return packaging has a tracking number printed near the bottom of the label--save this number.
  • After your sample is received by the lab, you will receive your test results within 24-48 hours by text and/or email.

Questions/Concerns: If you need assistance, use the Customer Service Text chat at 678-535-9904 to chat with an agent to help walk you through any of the processes (getting a saliva sample, securing the sample, shipping the sample, using the courier pick up service). The customer service hours for the text line are: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 7 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Ordering Your At-home Test Kit

You must register to receive the Get Covid Safe test kit. You may order your test at any time; however, you should not take the test more than 5 days before you return to campus.

Mitigating the spread of COVID means closely monitoring the incidences of COVID on campus with regular testing. COVID testing on campus is administered by:

Vaccinated Student and Employee Testing Protocols

Frequency

Weekly
Fully vaccinated students and employees are required to take one weekly rapid test on campus.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday
10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
No appointment necessary. Walk-ins welcome.

The number of daily tests being administered for those who are vaccinated may result in long lines. For faster service, please return to the testing site throughout the week.

Do I need an appointment?
No. The testing site will be open 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., four days a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Feel free to stop in at any time.

No. If you have a positive result, you will be contacted immediately.

Who will administer the test?
A medical professional will administer the test for you.

What kind of test will I take?
A nasopharyngeal rapid test (BINAX rapid test).

When will testing begin?

What do I need to bring with me?
Your student/employee ID number and ID badge or driver's license.

Do I have to pay for this or will my insurance be charged?
No, this testing is at no charge to you. The College will absorb all costs.

Individuals may be exempt from the weekly rapid test for a given week(s) based on the following criteria:

  • Currently not on campus, or will not access campus
  • Isolating due to COVID-19 positive test
  • Quarantine due to COVID-19 exposure

Unvaccinated Student and Employee Testing Protocols

Frequency

Twice Weekly
A rapid test twice a week is required for students and employees who are unvaccinated with a waiver or not fully vaccinated.

Appointments are scheduled through email.

Weekly Randomized PCR Diagnostic Testing

The College will also perform randomized PCR diagnostic testing each week of randomly selected vaccinated and unvaccinated community members.

Only those contacted directly via email will participate in this testing.

Weekly
Only those contacted directly by HR (employees) or Student Health Services (students) via email will participate in this testing.

Periodically, PCR testing will be performed on the full on-campus community. Dates and additional details will be communicated.
