Spelman Wellness Shifts Ground in 2014

The goal of the College is to construct a facility that meets the recreational, wellness and fitness needs of future students, faculty and staff. “The building program includes a gymnasium, pool, administrative offices, locker rooms, a classroom with a demonstration kitchen, three multipurpose rooms, a fitness area and a running track,” said Arthur E. Frazier III, director of Facilities Management and Services at Spelman College.  “In compliance with College policy, the project will be designed and executed consistent with U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Silver Standards.” Read Full Story >>

A $20,000 Gift Honors a Legacy of Wellness

Gretchen Satcher, C’91, saw the new Read Hall as an opportunity to support both the Wellness Revolution and to celebrate the memory of her mother, Callie Frances Herndon Satcher, C’63.  Satcher and her father, David Satcher, former U.S. Surgeon General, wanted to honor Callie Frances in what would have been her Golden Girl Reunion year, so they decided to make matching gifts to the new building totaling more than $20,000. Satcher, who lost her mother when she was just 9 years old, feels the gift is reflective of both her father’s and her passion for health and wellness. Read Full Story >>
