President's Letter to the Community

Hurricane Florence

September 14, 2018

Dear Spelman Community,

As Hurricane Florence makes landfall along the southeast coast, we, as a community, are keeping families that may be impacted in our thoughts and prayers. Spelman stands ready to support all on our campus who have loved ones in affected areas and I write now to share with you the steps we are taking on campus in response to the storm.

The Atlanta University Center Consortium Coordinated Inclement Weather Team will keep the AUC updated on an as-needed basis about the development of Hurricane Florence and its impact on the AUC.

Spelman will communicate about the inclement weather impact on campus and access to resources via www.spelman.edu/alert notifications.

In the coming hours and days, the campus is making available student wellness and academic counseling, as well as pastoral care and support from Student Affairs. You may obtain help through the following:

Faculty and staff, the College offers professional counseling services through our Employee Assistance Program. Brochures are available in the Office of Human Resources and information can be obtained via the My Spelman portal and (800) 523-5668.

For immediate ways to provide resources to those in the impacted areas, please visit FEMA's Hurricane Florence website.

As we keep the safety and well-being of our families and friends top of mind, be assured that the Spelman community is there to support you during this time.

Sincerely,

Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D.
President
