Walgreen Boots Alliance Inc. (WBA) has named Rosalind (Roz) Gates Brewer, C'84, as CEO effective March 15, 2021 - she will also join the company's board of directors at that time. This is an historic appointment as Brewer will be the first African American female executive to head a Fortune 500 company. WBA, a merger of an American company that operates as the second-largest pharmacy store chain in the United States and Switzerland-based Alliance Boots, a multinational pharmacy-led health and beauty group.
Brewer brings to WBA a proven track record of leadership and operational expertise at multi-national corporations, with deep experience in strategic development, marketing, digital transformation and loyalty, innovation and technology, supply chain and store development.The Board conducted an extensive search to identify an exceptional leader who will build on WBA’s track-record of success and take advantage of the many growth opportunities in many markets across the company," the announcement of her appointment as CEO states.
As the current chief operating officer and group president for Starbucks, Brewer leads the company’s operating businesses across the Americas (Canada, U.S. and Latin America), and Starbucks license stores as well as the global functions of marketing, technology, supply chain, product innovation, and store development organizations.
