Class of 2023 Top 10: Kayla Bowman

Kayla BowmanSpelman College class of 2023 Top 10 graduate Kayla Bowman is a psychology major and writing minor from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, Psi Chi Honor Society, and Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program. She has a passion for writing and the recognition of Black mental health when operating in predominantly white academic spaces. As a departmental honors student under faculty guidance, Bowman developed and conducted research regarding the effects of perseverative cognition and coping selection on academic wellness among Black college women.

On campus, she served as a tutor with Spelman’s Writing Center and Student Success Program. Through an opportunity at Emory University, she works as a research assistant on an ongoing study regarding women’s health in the Metro-Atlanta area. After graduation on May 21, 2023, she plans to attend Michigan State University where she will pursue a master of science degree in data science.
